Vintage Wine Tasting - El Ganador Malbec 2015
Name: El Ganador Malbec
Category: Malbec
Region: Mendoza, Argentina
Year: 2015
Price: $12
Winery Review: Garnet color. Aromas of black cherry, plum jam, rich dark soil, and violet honey with a lightly tannic, lively, dry medium-to-full body and a tingling, complex, medium-long black cherry, rich garden soil, crushed plum, and cinnamon toast finish with medium tannins and moderate oak. Dense, dark and chewy with earthy complexity, balancing the luscious jammy fruit qualities of new world with earthy qualities of old world wines.
My Review: This was the fourth wine that I tried at The Vintage Wine Cellar. The wine was dark purple in color and had a very "plum like" aroma. I was pretty sure the wine would have a berry like flavor. However, when I first took a sip of this wine, my palate was hit with a variety of flavors and the only flavors that I could personally distinguish were plum and a very earthly, soil like flavor. Even though the wine was pretty dry, I fell in love with its rich and complex taste. There was a balance between the fruity and earthliness of the wine which made me want to have it over and over. I would love to pair this wine up with something cheesy like Lasagna or Vegetables.
