Vintage Wine Cellar Tastings - Primes Ruby Port
Name: Primes Ruby Port
Category: Ruby Port
Region: Oporto, Portugal
Year: N/A
Price: $18
Winery Review: Ruby color; red fruit aromas; pleasantly sweet and balanced taste. As the wines used to produce Prime's Ruby Port age, they gain smoothness and elegance while retaining their fruitiness, intensity and youthful ruby color. They are then blended together for balance and consistency.
My Review: I was taken aback by how strong this wine tasted. It was pretty sweet but was full of flavors. This full-bodied wine tasted a lot like medicine but I still liked its strong fruity flavor. I would love to have this wine with a dessert like chocolate silk pie.
Vintage Wine Cellar Tastings - Lindeman's Bin 80 Cabernet
Name: Lindeman's Bin 80 Cabernet
Category: Cabernet - Merlot
Region: Southeastern, Australia
Year: 2015
Price: $18
Winery Review: Medium red in color with ruby hues. On the nose aromas of dark red berries, blackcurrents and ripe plums. While the palate is medium bodied, with dark red berries and a soft tannic finish.
My Review: This red wine had a strong aroma of raspberries and plums. When I took the first sip of this wine, I was immediately able to taste the black currents in the wine. Though it was delicious, it was a bit too dry for my taste. However, I would love to have this wine with juicy red meat.
Vintage Wine Cellar Tastings - Domaine de Poujol Coteaux du Languedoc
Name: Domaine De Poujol Coteaux du Languedoc
Category: Grenache Cinsault
Region: Southeastern, Australia
Year: 2011
Price: $13
Winery Review: Minerally and berry notes make for a savory blend of flavors in this fine-grained red. Dried berry fruit dominates, with accents of white pepper and dill seed. Delivers lively acidity on the finish. Drink now through 2018.
My Review: A refreshing, aromatic and affable red. This was a medium bodied red wine which had a very red berry like flavor. It was pretty acidic and was quiet tannic in texture on my palate. I wasn't a big fan of this wine because of how dry it was. However, would love to have this wine with cheesy pasta.
Vintage Wine Cellar Tastings - Pazo Du Monterrey
Name: Pazo De Monterrey
Category: Gouveio
Region: Monterrei, Spain
Year: 2014
Price: $15
Winery Review: Clean, minerally, slightly green in aromatics and oh so approachable and nice. For an under-$15 white, this Godello from Monterrei excels with layered flavors of apple, minerals and natural spice. The finish is long and hints at fresh herbs like thyme and tarragon. Potentially superb with garlic shrimp or calamari over fresh greens.
My Review: This white wine from Spain had a different taste to it. It was dry which was what I did not like about the it. It was light and fresh in the mouth and had an elegance and smoothness to it. It had a fruity as well as a tropical thing going on which was very refreshing. I would love to have this wine with seafood like fish or lobster.
Vintage Wine Tastings - Domaine de La Foret
Name: Domaine de la Foret
Category: Rose De Mediterranee
Region: Provence, France
Year: 2015
Price: $9.00
Winery Review: In color, this is almost white. There is some attractive acidity and the soft wine will slip down easily with just a touch of red currant. The result is a lightly mineral wine that is refreshing and good for an apéritif.
My Review: This pale pink wine with a salmon color had a very beautiful salmon like color. This wine had a very fresh taste to it. I liked the peachy smell of the wine. When I tasted the wine, it tasted a lot like strawberries which was really refreshing. I would love to have this wine by itself.
